The Western Australian Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages is a division of the Western Australian Department of Justice.
The Registry’s purpose is to create and preserve an accurate, permanent and confidential record of births, deaths, marriages and changes of name that occur in Western Australia. This is done in accordance with the Births, Deaths and Marriages Registration Act 1998.
When a birth, death, marriage or change of name is registered, certificates are available to people for a range of legal, personal and historical purposes.
The Registry performs civil marriages according to the Marriage Act 1961 for couples wanting to marry at the Registry Office and provides services associated with the registration of WA civil and religious marriage celebrants.
Important statistical data collected by the Registry for Government and other organisations is used for planning and research purposes.
